The Don Babbit Hot 100 Memorial Run was held June 14th with 11 cars participating. The run, put on by Jack Stoll and Jim Davis, was an outstanding success and was enjoyed by all those that didn’t get too lost. Jack laid out a very scenic and enjoyable route with some roads some of us had never seen before.
The run started in West Slope and traveled on back roads north of North Plains, down Rocky Point Road to Highway 30 and on to Sauvies Island for a rest stop without restrooms. The girls went down one path to some tall bushes and the guys took another. Thank the State for removing the portable toilets just before the Run. We then continued into NW Portland, through Hoyt Arboretum and the West Hills, through Garden Home and on to Beaverton where the run finished at Jim Davis's shop.
Jim had prepared a great setting for the finish with a finish line banner and a winner's circle with flags and streamers. The top 3 finishers were greeted by Miss Beaverton and presented with bottles of champagne. Luckily, the corks were left in to prevent the spectators from being sprayed. A very festive setting and celebration!
Jim also had several of his restoration projects on display for viewing: a 1906 Franklin, a 1910 Dayton Stoddard, and 1924 White Yellowstone Park bus along with his 1915 Stutz Bearcat that unfortunately broke an axle on the way to the starting line. A great assortment of vintage machines!
Jim also provided a great lunch with K bobs and all the goodies prepared by Chef D'Elegance "Sushi McGoon" AKA Jeff Goon. Many thanks to Jack Stoll, Jim Davis, Jeff Goon, and all the participants for making this a truly enjoyable event!
