This event hosted by the Reichlin families- left no stone unturned, not a doubt that Washington has some of the most beautiful, scenic sites to be seen and it is my understanding we traveled approximately 230 miles each day. The planning that went into this tour by CHARLES & TAMMIE IS TO BE COMMENDED!!
Starting on SUNDAY, July 22nd, Art & Helen R. graciously opened their home and the entire Reichlin family put on a barbeque feast. Much good food, & we enjoyed visiting with other speedster friends that were not able to tour with us but came over to wish us all a good time. AND A GOOD TIME IT WAS! Art & Helen also provided us a place to leave our trailers, etc. and a very SPECIAL THANKS TO THEM BOTH!!
MONDAY, July 23rd , started bright & early, with a heavy mist but we just put the sweatshirts etc. on, started those engines and we were off & running out of Mt. Vernon down toward Arlington, Granite Falls, over Stevens Pass heading east to our destination for lunch, Leavenworth, Wu. (One of my very favorite places to visit). After a little shopping in this quaint Bavarian village, we were on the road again. By this time the weather was quite warm and short sleeves were in order. We headed for Monitor, WA. To visit Joe Grentz collection of old cars and various antiques plus, he treated us to apples from his orchard as well as cookies (which he said was not from his orchard) we headed over Blewett Pass to Ellensburg where we planned to have dinner and spend the night.
TUESDAY, July 24th, we headed east on Vantage Highway toward Soap Lake. I was quite intrigued by the name of this lake and was looking for bubbles or something related to soap. I was told this lake was believed to be full of "healing" minerals. However, we were behind schedule so didn't have time to investigate it for ourselves. We moved on to DRY FALLS DAM & GRAND COULEE DAM. We drove our cars across Grand Coulee Dom, parked & observed this magnificent power plant! TOTALLY AWESOME & BEYOND DESCRIPTION!! As we toured the neat town of Coulee City, you couldn't miss the green lush lawns and the spectacular array of flowers coloring the landscapes. Proceeding on to Colville Indian Reservation and over Disautel Summit toward our destination for the evening, Okanogan, WA.
WEDNESDAY, July 25th, took us west over Loup Loup (NO, I haven't been into the wine, that is the correct name) Summit toward another favorite town of mine, Winthrop, WA. We spent some time here enjoying, shopping, and even a Hayride provided by family of Darrell & Jeannine Pitts. The horse's pulled this haywagon with all us aboard, no problem and, the wagon was even equipped with stereo music for our enjoyment. Time to get moving, we continued our trek through Okanogan National Forest, over Washington Pass, stopping at Overlook Viewpoint & walking up the trail to take a really good look!! SIMPLY BREATHTAKING!! Continuing, on to view ROSS DAM, Ross Lake, Diablo, LOWER BAKER DAM, Concrete, UPPER BAKER DAM, and Horseshoe Cove heading back to Mt. Vernon where we had a farewell dinner together and talked about the events of the journey.
